Crackdown continues on JeI leaders

SRINAGAR, (PTK): A number of separatist leaders and activists, mainly those belonging to rightwing Jamaat-e-Islami, were arrested in nocturnal raids on their homes on Thursday-Friday night mainly from Tral areas.

According to reports coming in during the new raids that took places mostly in Tral sub-divison of Pulwama, six Jamaat-e-Islami activists were arrested from Laribal, Pinglish, Dadsara and Mindoora villages last night.

Ministry of Home Affairs on yesterday evening in a notification declared Jamaat-e-Islami as “Unlawful association” and imposed ban it for five years.

Earlier last week, hundreds of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders were arrested during the raids .Those who were detained last week include Amir (chief) of the Jamaat Dr. Abdul Hamid Fayaz, its spokesperson Zahid Ali and former and incumbent officer-bearers Ghulam Qadir Lone, Abdur Rouf, Mudasir Ahmed, Abdul Salam, Bakhtawar Ahmed, Muhammad Hayat, Bilal Ahmad, Ghulam Mohammad Dar, and many others .
