Amir Hussain Lone: Defying Odds, Inspiring Many with his Remarkable Cricket Journey
The picturesque village of Waghama in Kashmir, Amir Hussain Lone stands tall as a testament to unwavering determination and resilience. At the age of eight, tragedy struck when he lost both arms while working at his father’s mill. Instead of succumbing to despair, Amir turned adversity into an opportunity to showcase his indomitable spirit through cricket.
Undeterred by the lack of external support, Amir diligently honed his cricketing skills, catching the attention of a perceptive teacher who recognized his innate talent. “After the accident, I didn’t lose hope and worked hard. I can do everything by myself, and I am not dependent on anyone. No one helped me after my accident. Not even the government supported me, but my family was always there for me,” shares Amir.
What sets Amir apart is his extraordinary ability to bowl with his legs and bat using a unique technique, holding the bat between his neck and shoulder. Despite the challenges, Amir attributes his success to hard work, divine strength, and an unyielding determination to overcome obstacles. “I have been applauded for my game everywhere, and I think it’s because of God that my hard work paid off,” he remarks.
Since 2013, Amir has been an integral part of para cricket, currently leading the Jammu and Kashmir para side. His cricketing journey has taken him to national and international arenas, playing matches in Delhi, Nepal, Sharjah, and Dubai. Sachin Tendulkar and Ashish Nehra have lauded Amir for his remarkable achievements, with Nehra even inviting him to the 2016 T20 World Cup semifinal as a gesture of appreciation.
The cricketing world isn’t the only realm where Amir’s story has left an impact. Bollywood star Vicky Kaushal, impressed by Amir’s journey, expressed his desire to showcase it on the big screen. “If I ever get a chance to do a biopic of an Indian Cricketer, then who will it be, today I got my answer. I will consider myself very lucky if I get a chance to showcase his life through a movie,” said Kaushal.
