Infiltration Attempts on the Rise in Jammu: Over 50 Militants Active on Border Launch Pads

Jammu: Security forces in the Jammu region are on heightened alert, with intelligence suggesting that more than 50 militants are currently positioned on launching pads across the border, ready to infiltrate. Major General Sameer Srivastava, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 10 Infantry Division, emphasized that the Army remains vigilant and prepared to thwart any attempts at infiltration, especially as winter approaches and infiltration tactics change.
Following the recent successful operation against three militants in the Akhnoor sector, Major General Srivastava addressed the press, highlighting the Army’s commitment to safeguarding civilians and preventing any terrorist incursions. This operation, lasting over 27 hours, ended with the neutralization of three militants who were holed up in a forest near the Line of Control (LoC).
“Each year, the infiltration pattern shifts, particularly during snowfall, but we are well-prepared to counter these attempts,” stated Srivastava. Brigadier Kapil Taneja, commander of the 28 Infantry Brigade, and Shiv Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Jammu-Kathua-Samba Range, accompanied the senior officer during the briefing.
While the number of militants at border launch pads is estimated to be around 50 to 60, Major General Srivastava noted that this figure fluctuates with time and circumstances, based on intelligence reports. The militants neutralized in Akhnoor, however, were not part of a fresh infiltration but a group already operating within the region. “This was a group present in the hinterland, and we had been tracking their movement. They arrived here and got exposed,” he explained.
