RAJOURI/JAMMU : A tragic incident has emerged from Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, where a woman allegedly killed her eight-day-old newborn daughter by leaving her in a nearly dry pond under direct sunlight. Officials reported on Monday that the baby succumbed to heat, hunger, and thirst.

The horrifying discovery was made on Sunday when police received a report of an infant’s body found in a nearly dry pond in Kadma Prat village, Sunderbani tehsil. A police team was promptly dispatched to recover the body.

Initial investigations led the victim’s mother, Sharifa Begum, to accuse the father, Mohammad Iqbal, of the crime. However, officials confirmed that Iqbal was in Kashmir at the time of the incident.

Suspicion then turned towards the mother, who was detained for questioning. During the interrogation, Sharifa broke down and confessed to the crime. According to officials, she admitted to killing the infant to settle scores with her husband following a confrontation.

Sharifa Begum has been charged with murder and other offences at the Sunderbani police station, where further investigations are ongoing.

This tragic incident has shocked the local community and highlights the devastating consequences of domestic conflicts.
