Next Week Likely To Be Rainy In Jammu And Kashmir: MeT
SRINAGAR : The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has forecast a week of intermittent light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds, across Jammu and Kashmir. The region can expect a respite from heatwaves, particularly in the Kashmir division, for the next eight days.
While the weather in the Jammu plains will remain hot and dry with heatwave conditions until June 4, relief is in sight with a change expected thereafter. On Saturday, Jammu recorded a maximum temperature of 42.9°C, which is 3.5°C above the seasonal norm.
For the next 24 hours, until Monday, the weather will be partly cloudy with chances of light rain and thunder in some areas. From June 4 to 7, the Meteorological office predicts partly to generally cloudy skies with intermittent light to moderate rain and thunder at many locations, accompanied by gusty winds. Some areas might experience brief periods of moderate intensity showers.
The weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy on June 8 and 9, with dry conditions forecast from June 10 to June 13. Farmers are advised to suspend farming operations on June 5 and 6 due to anticipated adverse weather.
Minimum temperatures recorded on the night between Saturday and Sunday were below normal at several weather stations in the Kashmir valley. Srinagar, the summer capital, noted a minimum temperature of 13°C, Qazigund 10°C, Pahalgam 6.4°C, Kokernag 10.2°C, and Gulmarg 8°C.
The maximum temperatures on Saturday were slightly above normal for this time of year. Srinagar recorded 27.5°C, Pahalgam 24.1°C, Kokernag 27.2°C, and the famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded 17.3°C.
