NIA Files Charge Sheet Against Tenth Accused in Drone Weapon Delivery Case
PTK NEWS DESK
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has recently added a tenth accused, Zakir Hussain alias Sonu, in its charge sheet for his involvement in delivering arms and weapons from Pakistan to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists via drones. This development comes as the NIA filed its second supplementary charge sheet before a special court in Jammu.
The case, originally registered by Rajbagh police in Kathua district of Jammu in May 2022 after intercepting a drone carrying arms, saw the NIA taking over the investigation in July 2022. The charge sheet includes nine previously named accused, all facing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act, and Explosive Substances Act.
Zakir Hussain was allegedly involved in supporting and assisting LeT operatives in collecting and delivering arms and ammunition consignments dropped by drones from Pakistan. Among the accused is Faisal Muneer, identified as the main handler of an overground worker (OGW) network operating in border area villages of Kathua, working under the direction of designated terrorist Sajjad Gul, based in Pakistan.
The case underscores the continued efforts by security agencies to thwart attempts to smuggle arms and ammunition across the border, highlighting the complex challenges posed by emerging technologies like drones in illicit activities.
