Security Forces Neutralize Top Lashkar (TRF) Commander Basit Dar in Kulgam Encounter
Top Lashkar-e-Toiba (TRF) commander Basit Dar was among two terrorists killed in an encounter at Redwani Payeen in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Tuesday.
According to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir zone, V K Bhirdi, the encounter ensued after receiving intelligence about the presence of terrorists in the area. The joint operation, comprising police and other security forces, culminated in an intense exchange of fire that lasted until afternoon.
Basit Dar, identified as an A category terrorist, had a bounty of Rs 10,000 on his head. Active since 2021, he was involved in over 18 cases, including attacks on security forces and minority members in Srinagar and South Kashmir.
The successful conclusion of the operation underscores the commitment of security forces to maintain peace and security in the region. However, the search operation to clear debris from explosives is still ongoing.
The identity of the second slain terrorist is being ascertained. The joint team of Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police had initiated the operation based on credible inputs about the presence of terrorists in Redwani village.
As the security forces approached the suspected spot, the terrorists opened fire, leading to the encounter. The operation signifies the resolve of security forces to thwart any attempts to disrupt the upcoming elections and maintain a peaceful atmosphere in Kashmir.
