CBI Probes Exploitation of Kashmiri Man Tricked into Military Involvement in Russia-Ukraine Conflict

SRINAGAR : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its investigation into the harrowing case of Azad Yousuf Kumar, a Kashmiri man unwittingly thrust into the Russia-Ukraine conflict under false pretenses. The agency’s actions follow the filing of an FIR against 19 individuals and visa consultancy firms implicated in the exploitation of Indian youth, as reported by the Press Trust of Kashmir.
Azad’s family, devastated by his ordeal, recounted the circumstances leading to his involvement in the conflict. Despite seeking job opportunities in Dubai, Azad fell victim to false promises orchestrated by a YouTuber named Faisal Khan. What began as aspirations for employment ended tragically with Azad being coerced into military service for the Russian army.
His elder brother, Sajad Ahmed Kumar, revealed the dire situation Azad currently faces at the Ukraine border. Forced to sign a contract in a language he didn’t understand, Azad found himself on the frontline alongside other deceived Indians. Despite managing brief phone calls with his family, Azad’s perilous predicament highlights the grave risks faced by those ensnared in the conflict.
The CBI’s investigation uncovered a sinister human trafficking network, manipulating Indian youths with enticing job offers before thrusting them into combat roles. Azad’s case underscores the urgent need for intervention to ensure the safe return of those unlawfully coerced into military involvement.
Despite efforts by Indian authorities to engage the Russian government for Azad’s repatriation, progress has been limited. His family’s anguish serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by unwitting victims caught amidst geopolitical conflicts.
