Man Booked for Spreading Fake News on Social Media: Police

SRINAGAR : The Rajpora area of Pulwama district witnessed an unsettling incident as a man was booked for spreading rumours through social media platforms. Identified as Sameer Ahmed Paray of Kabikoot CB Nath, the individual allegedly uploaded misleading posts on his Facebook profile under the pseudonym ‘Babar Azam.’
According to a statement released by the police, Paray shared a photo depicting arms and ammunition while falsely claiming that a new individual from Pulwama had joined militancy. This reckless act, aimed at inciting fear and unrest, prompted authorities to take swift action.
“We have registered an FIR against the rumour monger under FIR no 23/2024 u/s 505(b)/IPC at police station Rajpora,” stated a police spokesperson. The investigation into the matter has been initiated to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.
The statement emphasized the importance of responsible social media usage, urging the general public to refrain from sharing false information. “Strict action will be taken against any person found involved in posting malicious content on the internet,” the spokesperson warned.
