External Affairs Minister Jaishankar Emphasizes Zero Tolerance for Terrorism in Singapore Address

In a recent address to the Indian community in Singapore, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated India’s unwavering stance against terrorism, emphasizing that “a terrorist is a terrorist” regardless of language or explanation. Jaishankar’s remarks, perceived as a veiled reference to China, underscored the importance of not excusing or defending terrorism based on linguistic or ideological differences.
Speaking on diplomatic engagements, Jaishankar acknowledged the diversity of perspectives among nations but emphasized clarity on certain issues, particularly terrorism. He urged vigilance in discerning genuine differences from attempts to justify unacceptable actions under the guise of cultural or linguistic variance.
Reflecting on historical ties between India and Singapore, Jaishankar highlighted the inspirational role of Subhas Chandra Bose and the evolution of bilateral relations from the Look East to Act East policy. He praised Singapore as a key partner in India’s globalization journey, emphasizing the deepening intensity and quality of their relationship.
Addressing concerns of the Indian diaspora, Jaishankar assured them of India’s commitment to safeguarding their interests worldwide. He cited examples of India’s proactive global engagement, including humanitarian assistance during crises and active participation in international security operations.
The minister’s address resonated with attendees, who expressed pride in India’s progress and its role as a responsible global actor. Nimit Shedh from the Singapore Gujarati Society described the address as insightful, while Puneet Pushkarna, a Singapore-based businessman, praised India’s journey and its contributions to global stability and welfare.
