SRINAGAR : In a shocking turn of events, two individuals from Kupwara have been apprehended for allegedly orchestrating a deadly fire incident in a commercial building earlier this month. The incident, which claimed the life of a non-local resident, was reportedly a scheme to defraud an insurance company.
According to a police spokesperson, the fire broke out during the night of March 3rd and 4th, consuming a building owned by Sanaullah Mir in the Battergam area of Kupwara district. Tragically, Mohammad Feroz Alam, hailing from Charaya, Bihar, lost his life in the blaze.
Upon investigation, it was revealed that Abrar Ahmad Bhat and Zakir Ahmad Bhat, both residents of Kupwara, intentionally set fire to the building in a bid to deceive the insurance company for financial gain. The suspects, who had fled to Punjab following the incident, were apprehended and brought back to Kupwara to face legal proceedings.
The Kupwara Police Station has filed a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges of murder, arson, fraud, and criminal conspiracy against the accused individuals.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the lengths some may go to for monetary gain, at the expense of innocent lives and property. Authorities urge vigilance and swift action against such criminal activities to ensure justice is served and deter future attempts at fraud and violence.
