Awantipora gunfight ends with killing of two local militants

Srinagar May 31(PTK)  Two militants were killed in a gunfight that broke out between militants and security forces in Rajpora area of Awantipora in Pulwama district on Tuesday.

An official said that two militants have been killed and two AK 47 were recovered from their possession.

An official said that a joint team of Police, Army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which retaliated triggering an encounter.

IGP Kashmir said that in exchange of fire two militants including Shahid Rather involved in killing of civilians.

“Killed militants identified as Shahid Rather of #Tral & Umar Yousuf of #Shopian. Besides other #terror crimes, Shahid was involved in killing of a woman Mst Shakeela of Aripal & a govt employee/ peon Javid Ahmed of Lurgam Tral: IGP Kashmir.” Kashmir police zone tweeted. (PTK)
