Biggest infiltration attempt in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years, army operation continues

SRINAGAR, SEP 21 (PTK): The Army on Monday said it is engaged in a major operation in Jammu and Kashmir for the second consecutive day in what is being considered as the biggest infiltration attempt by terrorists from across the Line of Control in recent years, NDTV reported.

Internet services and mobile phones have been suspended in North Kashmir’s Uri sector since Monday morning.

The infiltration attempt was detected late Saturday on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Uri attack, in which 19 soldiers were killed after two suicide bombers attacked an army installation on September 18, 2016, officials said.

India retaliated with a surgical strike across the Line of Control that killed several terrorist launch pads.

According to the report of NDTV, a group of around six infiltrators managed to sneak in from Pakistan. He said a soldier was injured in the firing during the infiltration attempt.

The army said that operations were on to trace the intruders and the exact situation on the ground was still unclear.

This is the first time that phone services and internet have been suspended in the wake of a cross-border infiltration attempt. (PTK)
