DDC elections in Jammu and Kashmir showed how strong democracy is in India: PM Modi
Srinagar, Dec 26 (PTK): On the launch of the Ayushman Bharat Prime Minister Jan Arogya Yojana Health Scheme for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi has targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi without name. This week, Rahul Gandhi had opposed the agricultural law and said that democracy in India is now left in the imagination.
Narendra Modi said, “Jammu and Kashmir has elected panchayat at all three levels within a year of becoming a UT (Union Territory)”. Some people in Delhi keep cursing Modi, persisting, using abuses, in the morning and evening. Every day I teach new lessons to teach democracy. I want to show them a mirror today.
“In such a short time of becoming a Jammu and Kashmir UT, implemented the three level Panchayati Raj. On the other hand, despite the order of the Supreme Court in Puducherry, elections to the panchayat and the municipal body are not being held. The party of those who teach me the lessons of democracy here is ruling there. The Supreme Court had ordered for elections in 2018 itself. But till now there has not been an election. Elections have not been held here since 2006. It also shows how much difference there is in the words and actions of some political parties.
He said that these elections in Jammu and Kashmir also showed how strong democracy is in our country. But there is another side to which I want to draw the attention of the country. Despite the Supreme Court’s order in Puducherry, panchayat and municipal elections are not happening. You will be surprised, the Supreme Court gave this order in 2018. But the government which is there is constantly avoiding the matter. Friends, Local body elections took place in 2006 after decades of waiting in Puducherry. The tenure of those elected in these elections has ended in the year 2011 itself. (PTK)
