Another FIR Lodged for Overloading, No Fitness Certificate in Rajouri
Rajouri, May 05 (PTK): Traffic Police Rural Jammu on Tuesday registered another FIR against a bus driver for overloading passengers and operating without a valid fitness certificate in Rajouri.
According to officials, the action was taken during routine checking by SO Traffic Rajouri near Government Degree College Rajouri. A bus bearing registration number JK02DJ-8844, en route from Karhad to Rajouri, was intercepted.
During inspection, the vehicle—driven by Tahir Hussain, son of Zakir Hussain, a resident of Karhad Rajouri—was found carrying 46 passengers against the permitted capacity of 33, exceeding the limit by 13 passengers and posing a serious safety risk.
Further verification revealed that the vehicle had been challaned 36 times over the past three years, with 25 challans still pending. The bus was also found operating without a valid fitness certificate, which had already expired. Notably, it had been challaned earlier on April 29, 2026, for the same violation, yet continued to ply on roads.
Accordingly, FIR No. 225/2026 under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and BNS has been registered at Police Station Rajouri. This marks the third such FIR in the past week for similar offences, with earlier cases registered at Surankote and Billawar.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Rural Jammu, Farooq Qaiser, stated that the matter will be taken up with concerned authorities for cancellation of the vehicle’s registration certificate and the driver’s license. He urged all vehicle owners and drivers to strictly comply with traffic rules, warning that strict action will continue against violators.(PTK)
