Mawer locals irked by power cuts during Sehri, Iftar

Langate, Apr 29 (PTK): Residents of several villages in Mawer block in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district said they were facing long power cuts at ‘iftar’ and ‘sehri’ despite the recent announcement of the authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Ramzan.

Students said they were the worst sufferers because of the erratic power supply.

“Iftar and sehri are the two important times during Ramzan, but unfortunately, the power supply often remains suspended or affected at both times,” said Danish Manzoor Bhat, a resident of Sudergund village.

“The government had issued a fresh power curtailment schedule to ensure power supply during iftar and sehri but the department has failed to adhere to the schedule,” Bhat said.

In the Mawer area of Langate town, locals said there was an hour-long power cut at sehri and iftar.

“We often eat sehri under candlelight as the power supply is either suspended minutes before sehri begins or minutes after people start eating their pre-dawn meal. The electricity plays hide and seek during iftar as well,” said Altaf Ahmad, a resident of Audoora Mawer village. (PTK)
