Plight of migrant labourers across several states in India, heart wrenching: AIP
Srinagar, Mar 29 (PTK): Reacting sharply to various insensitive statements over the plight of migrant workers trying to reach their homes in several states of India, Awami Itehad Party very strongly denounced such insensitive and inhuman remarks.
“It is for the Government to introspect why such a colossal failure was let to happen in first place and why things were not conscientiously planned before announcing such a sudden lockdown. Pointing out that the first positive Covid-19 case in India was reported in the month of January and why a period of two months was not enough to plan out things is for the Government of the day to answer,” said a statement.
Lauding various state Governments particularly Kerela and New Delhi for their welfare measures in the wake of Corona Virus outbreak. Party spokesperson Sheeban Ashai emphasised, on administration to have an empathetic approach towards people. News of death of a migrant worker from Madhya Pradesh, who had left for home from Delhi on foot is excruciatingly agonising. It is the responsibility of people at helm of affairs everywhere to realise the need to immediately facilitate and assist those who need help the most.
The party leadership stressed on the administration lead by LG in Kashmir to further improve the state of facilities in various hospitals earmarked for Covid-19 cases in particular. Better testing equipments, improving state of medical facilities along with ensuring availability of all essential supplies should be the focus of administration for now across Kashmir.
Also the authorities must ensure migrant workers from other states of India are properly looked after, distressing details are coming from Poonch and Rajouri where various stranded labourers are facing numerous problem which must be looked into.
It is for everyone to understand that at least today in the current scenario humanitarian values must be given precedence over all other ideological or political differences. Taking into note various reports of voluntary organisations working on ground, AIP top brass asked the NGO’ s and other social organisations to first get in touch with District administration before carrying out their relief work.
The present situation is not a normal scenario, it is important for everyone to take prerequisite precautionary measures first before helping others. We appreciate their spirit to serve the people at large but one must also not overlook the tremendous multiplying potential of the virus.
Regarding ration distribution across Kashmir, party functionaries got in touch with District administration and were apprised by the higher ups about entire exercise being carried out in a phased manner and assured that no area would be left out. AIP also urged the Central Government to pull up its socks and focus all energies towards the job at hand. It is the responsibility of Government of the day to ensure all shortcomings are ironed out in coming days. (PTK)
