PDP warns protest if divisional status not given to Pir Panjal region
SRINAGAR, FEB 09 (PTK): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today warned of protests if divisional status was not given to Pir Panjal region.
Senior PDP leader Chowdhary Zulfikar Ali addressing a press conference at Rajouri, welcomed the status given to Ladakh but he also demanded the same for Pir Panjal region.
Zulfikar said “Shelving four lane project for Jammu-Poonch highway and restricting it to Akhnoor, no sanction of railway line and restricting fund allocation are glaring examples of discrimination”.
He further added that ignoring demand of division status for Pir Panjal was a fresh example.
Chowdhary added that the people of the region have always kept democracy alive and it was demonstrated by 90 per cent voting during the peak of militancy.
“If even after voting in such high numbers and remaining active in democracy, people strive to get their issues resolved then these people can also think of following some other ways outside the democratic process to get their demands fulfilled,” he warned.
On Friday, Jammu and Kashmir government approved for the creation of a separate division for Ladakh as a revenue and administrative division, ahead of the 2019 general elections in the region.
The development occured after the two districts- Leh and Kargil- had consistently demanded for the same. Approval of the posts of Divisional Commissioner (Ladakh) and Inspector General of Police (Ladakh) have also been carried out. The new division will have its headquarters in Leh. (PTK)
