J&K Police Books Two Notorious Drug Peddlers Under PIT NDPS in Anantnag
Anantnag, May 24 (PTK): Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday booked two alleged habitual drug peddlers under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act and shifted them to jails outside Kashmir Valley as part of its intensified anti-narcotics campaign.
The accused have been identified as Feroz Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Karim Bhat of Akingam Achabal and Mohammad Ashraf Dar son of Abdul Rehman Dar of Tulkhan Bijbehara.
Police said both the accused were repeatedly involved in drug peddling activities and several NDPS cases had earlier been registered against them. Despite previous legal action, they allegedly continued to engage in narcotics trafficking, posing a serious threat to the youth of the district.
After obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority, Feroz Ahmad Bhat was lodged in District Jail Rajouri, while Mohammad Ashraf Dar was shifted to District Jail Poonch.
Police said the action was aimed at dismantling local drug supply networks and preventing the accused from continuing illegal narcotics-related activities from within the district.
Jammu and Kashmir Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and appealed to the public to share information regarding drug peddling and narcotics activities, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.(PTK)
