500+ Schools Hold Mega PTMs in Shopian Under Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan
Shopian, May 15 (PTK): As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan and under the flagship “Family Fortress Initiative” announced by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, more than 500 government and private schools across Shopian on Thursday organised Mega Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) to strengthen awareness against drug abuse among youth.
The large-scale outreach programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from parents, teachers, school managements and community members across all educational zones of the district.
The PTMs focused on sensitising parents about the growing threat of substance abuse and equipping them with practical strategies to protect children from falling prey to narcotics.
During the sessions, parents were educated about early warning signs of addiction, the importance of emotional bonding within families, monitoring children’s behaviour and social circles, responsible use of social media and the collective role of society in building a drug-free future.
Teachers and school heads stressed the need for continuous dialogue between parents and educational institutions to ensure the overall well-being and safety of students.
The programmes were organised under the “Family Fortress Initiative,” which promotes strong family and community bonds as the first line of defence against drug addiction through regular family dialogues and community engagement.
Parents participated in the meetings with enthusiasm and expressed concern over the increasing threat posed by narcotic substances. Many assured school authorities of their active involvement in future awareness programmes and pledged to work collectively for a drug-free society.
Speakers during the sessions emphasized that schools, families, religious institutions and civil society must work together to strengthen the “Community Immunisation Programme Against Drugs” launched by the Lieutenant Governor to transform vulnerable areas into drug-free zones through awareness, vigilance and early intervention.
The district administration and education department appreciated the active participation of parents and termed the response to the campaign highly encouraging.(PTK)
