Somnath Temple a Beacon of Nation, Symbol of India’s Eternal Spirit: LG Manoj Sinha

Srinagar, May 11 (PTK): Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that the Somnath Temple is a beacon of the nation and a symbol of India’s unbroken faith, resilience and spiritual strength.

The Lieutenant Governor performed Puja on the occasion of Somnath Swabhiman Parv commemorating 1,000 years of unbroken faith and attended a public function organised at Lok Bhavan.

Addressing the gathering, Manoj Sinha said that despite repeated invasions and destruction by aggressors, Somnath has continued to guide the nation towards new horizons and remained deeply embedded in the soul of every Indian.

“Somnath is a celebration of India’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage. Somnath embodies the divinity of our land. Somnath is eternal prayer. Somnath is inseparable from our culture and its sanctity lives in every Indian heart,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor observed that no other temple or sacred site in history had been looted and destroyed repeatedly only to rise again each time with renewed grandeur.

He recalled the role of great rulers and leaders including Bhim Dev, Jayapal, Anandpal and Maharaja Dharsen in preserving the sanctity of the temple and also paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for initiating the reconstruction of the temple after independence.

He further mentioned that on May 11, 1951, then President of India Rajendra Prasad performed the consecration ceremony of the rebuilt temple.

“Somnath Temple’s immortality teaches us to draw inspiration from the past and build India’s golden future. The rebuilding of Somnath is a symbol of inner victory, faith and resolve burning for millennia,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

Calling Somnath the “strength and pride” of India, Manoj Sinha stated that the temple has always awakened new possibilities across the nation and laid the foundation of a new India.

“Somnath Temple is a beacon of the nation. Without Somnath, our society would be lifeless,” he added.

Among others present on the occasion were Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat and several senior civil and police officers.(PTK)
