Police and Security Forces Foil JeM Terror Plot in Srinagar: 4 Arrested

SRINAGAR : Police alongside security forces successfully dismantled a major terror module associated with the banned organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Four terrorist associates were apprehended during the operation conducted in the Kenihama area, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Nowgam.

 

Acting on precise intelligence, a joint Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) comprising Srinagar Police, 50 RR, Valley QRT, and 29Bn CRPF was established in the evening hours. The vigilant joint team intercepted a white Alto vehicle and swiftly detained the four suspects. The arrested individuals were identified as Md Yaseen Bhat, Sheraz Ahmad Rather, Gulam Hassan Khandey, and Imtiyaz Ahmad Bhat.

 

The operation yielded a significant cache of incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition, including an AK 56 rifle with three magazines, 75 rounds of 7.62 x 39 mm ammunition, a Glock pistol with two magazines, 26 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, and six Chinese grenades.

 

Preliminary investigations revealed the direct connection of the apprehended individuals with the proscribed terror outfit JeM. Consequently, a case under relevant sections of the law, including the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and Arms Act, has been registered at Police Station Nowgam. Further investigations are underway to unearth additional details and connections associated with the thwarted terror plot.

 

This successful operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the police and security forces in ensuring the safety and security of the region against nefarious elements bent on disturbing peace and harmony. The timely action has averted a potential threat to civilian lives and is a testament to the collaborative efforts in combating terrorism in the region.
