Anantnag, July 22: The family members of a 14-year-old girl have alleged that doctors at GMC Anantnag used unsterilized equipment during her appendix surgery, resulting in a severe infection. One month after the surgery, the patient is still in pain, prompting the family to demand justice.
According to the patient’s family, the doctors, identified as Dr. Bilal and Dr. Zahid, performed the appendix surgery on the girl. The family claims that the use of unsterilized equipment led to an infection and swelling in the abdomen, preventing the patient from recovering properly.
The patient’s father, Gh Qadir Sheikh, shared their ordeal with the media. “On June 13, my daughter was admitted to GMC Anantnag with severe abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with appendicitis. The surgery was performed on June 10 by Dr. Bilal and Dr. Zahid. Two weeks after the surgery, my daughter was still in pain and not recovering. When we approached the doctors, one of them admitted that unsterilized equipment had been used, causing the surgery to fail.”
Despite the patient’s ongoing pain, she was discharged from the hospital. The family sought help from private clinics, but the doctors there refused to treat her, citing the surgery performed at GMC Anantnag.
In response to the family’s plight, they approached the Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag on Thursday. The official forwarded their complaint to the CMO Anantnag and assured them that an investigation would be conducted.
Speaking to the Press Trust of Kashmir (PTK), Dr. Muzaffar Sherwani ,Superintendent of GMC stated, “We need to verify the allegations first. I will obtain a report from the concerned team of doctors and the personnel responsible for sterilization.”
The family continues to seek justice and proper medical care for their daughter, hoping that the investigation will bring clarity and accountability.
