PULWAMA: The residents of Tral town in Pulwama district on Thursday staged protest against the Power Development Department (PDD) for failing to provide uninterrupted power supply to the consumers.
The protesting women of Naik Mohalla (Kousarbal) in Tral complained that they have been facing erratic power supply due to which the people are facing hardships on daily basis.
They said that the power cuts are happening due to technical snag in power transformer, which is not capable to bear the load, even after hike in power tariff.
“We are facing power cuts as the low-capacity transformer installed in our area is causing power cuts daily. The department hiked power tariff recently, but our demand to replace the existing transformer with a new one, is yet to be taken into the consideration,” protesting women said.
The locals demanded the installation of a new transformer at the Naik Mohalla Kousarbal to overcome the problem of power cuts in the area.
Meanwhile, the protesting women were immediately pacified by the police, accompanied by SHO Tral, AEE PDD, Tehsildar Tral, while they assured them that their demands will be redressed soon.
BJP leader, Avtar Singh was also present on the spot, who spoke to the residents and personally reviewed the power supply being provided to the people. He also spoke to the PDD officials regading the power outages in the area, and assured people that their problem will be solved.
