Sudden Cloudburst Wreaks Havoc in Cherwan Gandarbal
PTK Exclusive
GANDERBAL – In the early hours of the morning, a cloudburst caused severe flooding in Cherwan Padabal, leading to significant property damage and widespread disruption. The cloudburst, which struck at approximately 12:30 AM, resulted in the rapid condensation of a large volume of water vapor into intense rainfall within a brief span of time, overwhelming the region.
The sudden deluge has severely impacted agriculture, damaged multiple homes, and led to the closure of the National Highway to Ladakh. The primary cause of the flooding appears to be the increased water flow in the power canal, which has left local residents deeply concerned.
Emergency response teams, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and local volunteers, have been actively engaged in rescue and relief operations. The cloudburst has buried several residential houses and vehicles under debris, and the main highway remains blocked due to the flooding.
Adding to the distress, sources have confirmed another mudslide in the Gagangeer area of Ganderbal during the night. This additional mudslide has exacerbated the already challenging situation, prompting further emergency measures.
Local administration, Border Roads Organization (BRO), police, and other departments have initiated a coordinated rescue operation in the affected areas. Heavy machinery and equipment are being deployed to clear the debris and restore normalcy.
Efforts are underway to assist those affected and to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents. The community is coming together in this time of crisis, showcasing resilience and solidarity in the face of natural calamity.
