Sopore encounter ends with the killing of three militants

Over 100 militants killed this year: IGP internet shut in the area, Train services suspended for the day

SRINAGAR, Aug 24 (PTK): Three militants have been killed in an encounter between government forces and militants in PethSeer area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

He said that a joint team of Police, Army’s 52 RR and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in PethSeer on Monday evening.

As the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight.

Meanwhile IGP said that this year over 100 militants have been killed this year.

Today, by the collective efforts of JmuKmrPolice, ChinarcorpsIA, crpfindia and people of Kashmir have led to neutralisation of more than 100 militants in the year of 2021 so far in Kashmir division, said IGP Vijay Kumar, tweeted by Kashmir police zone.

Meanwhile, as a precautionary measure authorities suspended mobile internet services in the area as a precautionary measures.

Train services between Budgam to Baramulla and vice versa have been also suspended for a day. During the search operation as the presence of terrorists got ascertained, they were given opportunity to surrender, however, instead they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter.

However due to darkness the operation was suspended, while the cordon was kept intact. In the wee hours, repeated announcements were again made to the hiding terrorists to surrender, but the terrorists again fired on joint search party and the fire was retaliated.

In the ensuing encounter, three terrorists were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Faisal Fayaz son of Fayaz Ah Thokar resident of Kapren Shopian, Gh Mustafa Sheikh son of Abdul Ahad Sheikh resident of Tekipura Kupwara and Rameez Ah Ghanie son of Ab Majeed Ghanie resident of Zipor Dharamati, Shopian, affiliated with proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF).

As per police records, the killed terrorists were part of groups involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities.

Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 AK-47 rifle & 02 Pistols were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror crimes.

In this connection, Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated.

“Pertinently, the collective efforts of J&K Police, Army, CRPF & people of Kashmir Valley have led to neutralisation of more than 100 terrorists in the current year so far in Kashmir division” said by IGP Kashmir. He has also congratulated the joint teams working with great synergy and coordination on the ground for achieving this milestone and termed it as a big success.  (PTK)
