Soldier injured in Kulgam encounter as militants escape

PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR Kulgam JULY 27:-: Militants managed to give slip to security forces during an encounter in Brayihard Kathpora village of Yaripora in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday while as an army soldier was injured during the initial stage of the encounter, officials said.

An official said that a joint of team of police, Army’s 34 RR and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched search operation in the area.

“As the searches were on, the militants who had taken shelter in nearby area came out firing guns and lobbed grenade,” he said. The police official said the exchange of fire continued for few minutes after which the guns fell silent.

“The security forces launched searches for hours to trace the militants, but they couldn’t and the operation was finally called off,” he said.

An army solider was injured in initial exchange, however, he has been shifted to hospital where his condition is said to be stable, he added.
