Anantnag, May 12 (PTK): Commissioner Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Saurabh Bhagat on Monday conducted an extensive tour of Anantnag to review developmental activities and preparedness for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.

During the visit, the Commissioner Secretary inspected ongoing works related to augmentation of storage infrastructure, repair and renovation of departmental assets and other logistical arrangements being put in place for ensuring smooth supply of foodgrains and essential commodities during the Yatra.

He also carried out surprise inspections of the Chandanwari and Pahalgam granaries, which serve as major dumping and storage sites for foodgrains meant for Yatra Langars, service providers and government establishments along the pilgrimage route.

Saurabh Bhagat reviewed the stock position, quality control measures, fire safety arrangements and security at the storage facilities. He directed officials to ensure strict adherence to quality norms, round-the-clock monitoring of stocks and maintenance of adequate buffer stock to tackle any emergency situation.

Expressing satisfaction over the arrangements, the Commissioner Secretary instructed officers to ensure 100 percent dumping of required foodgrains and petroleum products well before commencement of the Yatra.

He also directed field staff to work in close coordination with the district administration and other agencies for ensuring hassle-free services to pilgrims and local residents.

Later, the Commissioner Secretary inspected several sale outlets in Pahalgam and visited the office of the Assistant Director FCS&CA.

During the inspection, he directed the Assistant Director to identify suitable land for establishment of a Research Institute aimed at functioning as a capacity-building centre for employees and workforce of the department in the district.

“The institute will serve as a centre of excellence for in-service training of employees on modern supply chain management, foodgrain quality control, e-PoS operations, end-to-end computerisation of the Public Distribution System and grievance redressal mechanisms,” he said.
