Preserving wetlands, Namblas and other water bodies from encroachment top priority: DC Budgam
Instructs concerned authorities to demarcate map and install pillars at all wetlands/water bodies within a week.
Budgam, July 16(PTK): Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Shahbaz Ahmed Mirza (KAS) today chaired a meeting convened here today in order to discuss the directions received from National Green Tribunal (NGT) pertaining to impending issues of wetlands and water bodies of District Budgam. The meeting also deliberated on the point’s agenda wise already discussed in the meeting under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir. Today’s meeting was also attended by ADC, Dr. Nasir Ahmad, Director Rakhs and farms, Director wildlife warden, ACD, ACR, District officer SPCB and other concerned.
During the meeting, DDC Budgam instructed the concerned authorities to act swiftly and resolve all issues and achieve targets set under various projects and works relating to covering of wetland including its demarcation, removing encroachments from wetlands and Numbals, preventing general public in throwing any kind of garbage or solid waste into these wetlands to make it sustainable, install pillars around its borders through barbed wire and at some places by fencing. It was also given out in the meeting that there are 4 wetlands, Hokhersar, Soibugh, Narbal Nambal and Narkara Nambal, besides some small patches are also existing adjacent to these wetlands.
Speaking on the occasion the DDC reiterated that it should be our long lasting endeavor and responsibility to preserve these heredital assets , wetlands provide us sanctuaries as these not only or home to precious different kind of migratory birds but also are feeding place to different water habitant species. We have to protect them at any cost to maintain sustained and beautiful environment. The DDC further directed the concerned to pace up demarcation process of Nambli Narkara and other wetlands.
He said allied departments like Revenue, Department of Wetland and wildlife, Irrigation and Flood control and other allied agency in cooperation of police department if required shall complete the process within one week. Regarding the issue of proper management of dumping of garbage and other solid liquid waste, the DDC directed Wage Employment Officer and other concerned to identify suitable spots/locations where dumping plants equipped with all latest facilities can be constructed.
It shall be ensured that dumping plant shall not cause any inconvenience to general public. The DDC also directed the concerned to ensure that there shall not be any solid waste & water discharge to FSC Narbel, Nambli Narkara and Hokhersar.
Taking strong note of non compliance by contractors, the DDC directed that such agencies shall be dealt with iron hand and action as warranted under rules shall be initiated which includes forfeiture of CDR, Blacklisting and lodging of FIR against the culprits.
The DDC reiterated that all concerned officers/officials shall work as a team with passion and intent to work.
