Mirwaiz North Kashmir demands 100% import duty on foreign apples to save Kashmir growers

Srinager 13 July 14: Mirwaiz North Kashmir, Chairman Muslim Mutahida Mahaaz J&K Moulana Parray Hassan Afzal Firdousi has demanded the imposition of 100 percent import duty on foreign apples to safeguard Kashmir growers who are facing severe crises.

In his Statement Mirwaiz Hassan Firdousi said Apple cultivation is a major source of income for many farmers in Jammu and Kashmir and plays a crucial role in sustaining the economy of the UT. A sudden influx of cheaper imported apples could lead to a decline in demand for locally grown produce, potentially harming the livelihoods of thousands of farmers.

Mirwaiz Firdousi said that fruit growers suffered heavy losses over the last few years due to frequent closure of Jammu- Srinagar National Highway, price drop and climate change. “The government must roll out the MIS and MSP to alleviate the farmers’ distress”,

“The government has a solemn duty to safeguard our farmers and their livelihoods,” Mirwaiz Firdousi insisted and further stated that by enforcing a 100% import duty on foreign apples, further losses can be prevented and heritage. Preserved.

“The only viable solution to this crisis is the immediate implementation of a 100% import duty on foreign Apples to safeguard the interests of Kashmiri Growers. It is a matter of survival for Kashmir farmers,” Mirwaiz Hassan Firdousi said.
