MHA Scraps Free Movement Regime Between India and Myanmar
In a significant move aimed at bolstering internal security and preserving the demographic structure of India’s northeastern states, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has decided to scrap the Free Movement Regime (FMR) between India and Myanmar. Union Minister Amit Shah announced the decision on Thursday, citing the need to safeguard the nation’s interests. The decision comes as the Ministry of External Affairs is in the process of formalizing the suspension of the FMR. This move underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the integrity and security of India’s borders while addressing concerns related to demographic shifts in the northeastern region.
