MeT Predicts Light Rain, Gusty Winds in Kashmir till June 21; Heat Wave Expected in Jammu from June 22

Srinagar, June 20 : The Meteorological Department has forecast light rain, thunder, and gusty winds across many parts of the Kashmir Valley and some areas of the Jammu region till June 21. From June 22-23, there is a possibility of light rain and thunder at isolated places, according to a departmental official.
The weather is expected to be generally dry from June 24-27, though isolated places may still experience light rain and thunder. Additionally, a heat wave is likely to affect the plains of Jammu from June 22.
Temperature Report:
- Srinagar: The minimum temperature dropped to 13.7°C from the previous night’s 18.0°C, which is 2.1°C below the seasonal norm for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
- Qazigund: Recorded a low of 13.6°C, down from 14.8°C the previous night, 0.8°C below normal.
- Pahalgam: The temperature was 10.7°C, slightly up from 10.2°C, but still 1.1°C below the usual.
- Kokernag: Reported a minimum of 13.7°C, compared to 12.9°C previously, 0.5°C below normal.
- Kupwara: Dropped to 11.6°C from 13.6°C, which is 2.8°C below average.
- Gulmarg: Noted a significant drop to 5.0°C from 11.2°C, 5.1°C below the normal temperature for the renowned skiing destination.
- Jammu: The temperature was 23.5°C, down from 28.0°C, 0.3°C below the seasonal norm.
- Banihal: Recorded a low of 15.3°C.
- Batote: Reported 15.0°C.
- Bhaderwah: Logged 14.9°C.
The meteorological update highlights the varying weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir, with cooler temperatures in the Kashmir Valley and an anticipated heat wave in the Jammu region from June 22. (GNS)
