Man Allegedly Strangles Wife to Death in Kupwara

Kupwara, May 29: In a tragic incident, a mid-aged man allegedly strangled his wife to death in the Kupwara district of north Kashmir.

 

According to reports, on Tuesday night, the accused Amjid Ahmed Mughal allegedly killed his wife, Sobia Begum, by strangulation in the Shartpalla area of Kupwara’s Tanghdar. Sobia Begum, aged 35, was transported to the hospital where medico-legal formalities are being completed.

 

Following the incident, police have arrested Mughal and launched an investigation under the relevant sections of law.

 

This incident adds to a disturbing trend of rising crime in the Kashmir valley. According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s annual gazette, there was a 15.41 percent increase in registered crimes in 2020 compared to 2019. Although the crime report for 2022 is yet to be released, statistics indicate that the overall crime rate in Jammu and Kashmir surged by 24.6 percent in 2021 compared to 2019. The increasing crime rates are a significant concern for local residents, reflecting a deteriorating law and order situation in the region.
