LG Reviews Progress of Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, Orders Intensified Crackdown on Narco-Terror Network
Srinagar, May 27 (PTK): Manoj Sinha on Wednesday directed the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Union Territory administration to further intensify the crackdown against the narco-terror ecosystem operating across Jammu and Kashmir.
The directions were issued during a high-level review meeting chaired by the Lieutenant Governor at Lok Bhavan Srinagar to assess the progress of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan.
The meeting was attended by Atal Dulloo, Nalin Prabhat, senior administrative secretaries and other top officials of the UT administration.
Reviewing the anti-drug campaign, Manoj Sinha stressed the need for a stronger anti-narcotics mechanism and directed the Director General of Police to further strengthen the Anti-Narcotics Task Force by deploying additional manpower.
The Lieutenant Governor also reviewed rehabilitation measures for victims of substance abuse and directed authorities to scale up the number of de-addiction and rehabilitation centres being operated by the police and health departments across the Union Territory.
He emphasized regular monitoring by health officials to ensure effective counselling, treatment and rehabilitation of individuals affected by drug addiction.
To curb narcotics-related activities, the Lieutenant Governor directed the administration to identify and closely monitor vulnerable locations such as abandoned buildings and river bunds that could be misused for drug trafficking and substance abuse.
He also called for wider public disclosure of high-profile drug peddlers as a deterrent against narcotics-related crimes and to create greater public awareness regarding the menace.
The Lieutenant Governor further tasked the School Education and Higher Education Departments with organising sports tournaments and youth engagement programmes aimed at steering young people away from drug abuse and promoting positive social activities.
The meeting reviewed the progress achieved under the ongoing anti-drug campaign and deliberated on measures to further strengthen enforcement, prevention and rehabilitation efforts across Jammu and Kashmir.(PTK)
