Leopard mauls six year old girl to death in Anantnag

Locals allege inaction of wildlife department, demand action on ground

Press Trust of Kashmir | Anantnag:- A minor girl was mauled to death in Gopalpora area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday evening.

Zubaida Jan(06) daughter of Gh Mohuiddin Chopan was on way to her maternal home when she was attacked by leopard and she died before reaching to hospital.

Meanwhile locals from Gopal pora said that wildlife has failed to take any action on ground in this regard as repeatedly they were informed about the movement of leopard in the area.

Manzoor Ahmad khan, a local resident said that leopard has carried several attacks in the area in recent past and accordingly concerned department was being informed, however, they failed to take any action in this regard.

He said that had department worked on ground, this incident wouldn’t have come to fore.

Gh Mohuiddin Chopan father of girl said that leopard has attacked several persons and animals in the area but no action was taken by concerned department.

Last time my son was attacked by the leopard and in the incident he received critical injuries but he is fine now, he said, adding that several animals including cows and sheeps were attacked by the leopard in the area but department has failed to capture the wild beast.

Locals requested concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and capture wild beasts roaming in the area, so that they can heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile an official of concerned department said that four teams have been deployed in the area and efforts are on to capture the wild animals in the area
