The Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared that the time has come for Jammu and Kashmir to finally hold its long-awaited assembly elections. Speaking at a press conference in Jammu, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar assured the public that no internal or external forces could prevent the elections from taking place.
“It’s time to give you your elected government. The time has come, and no power can derail the elections here,” CEC Rajiv Kumar emphasized. This statement marks a significant moment for the Union Territory (UT), which has been under President’s rule since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
The announcement has been met with anticipation across the region, as the people of Jammu and Kashmir look forward to restoring their legislative assembly and having a voice in the governance of the UT. The ECI has not yet released the official election dates, but the assurance from the highest electoral body signals that the wait is nearly over.
This development is seen as a pivotal step in re-establishing democratic processes in Jammu and Kashmir, and it is expected to be a closely watched election, given the region’s unique political landscape.
