Horticulture Department organises farmers’ awareness camp at Kanthi
PRESS TRUST OF KASHMIR RAMBAN, AUGUST 23: Horticulture Department on Monday organised an awareness camp here at Panchayat Kanthi of block Ramban to discuss and implement different schemes of the Horticulture sector in the district under the aegis of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Chief Horticulture Officer, Anil Kumar Gorka, along with technocrats of the Horticulture Department conducted the awareness and demonstration sessions in the presence of Sarpanch, Kanthi, Kirti Lata, PRIs and about 60 farmers of the area.
At the outset, the CHO discussed the schemes of the department like UT Capex Budget, PFME, NHB, NABARD and processing units under Capex etc. the emphasis was laid on the development of private sector nurseries and availing benefits of the schemes besides creating entrepreneurship opportunities for youth by producing quality planting material which can further be utilized by the beneficiaries while implementing Area Expansion Components.

The Chief Horticulture Officer also laid thrust on the cultivation of Strawberry in order to avail subsidies and earn a high income from this cash crop. The Awareness Camp was aimed to acquaint the farmers with the latest technologies being used in orchards.
Meanwhile, the District Level Subject Matter Specialist (Pomology) Ramban Pardeep Gupta elaborated the schemes in detail and requested to harvest good profits by implementing the CSS through various kinds of project proposals that are to be approved by the GOI departments.
Later, the Farm Manager, ACHD Ramban, Virinder Kumar discussed the Budding/Grafting techniques and production of quality planting material by the beneficiaries themselves. He also invited the farmers at Farm to watch the techniques adopted in the Farm on the basis of “Seeing is believing”.
