Hike in Power Bills in J&K is Unacceptable, Mirwaiz North Kashmir

SRINAGAR, July 02: Mirwaiz North Kashmir, who is also Chairman Muslim Mutahida Mahaaz J&K *Moulana Parray Hassan Afzal Firdousi* has expressed shock over unaffordable hike in power bills in J&K.
In a Statement Mirwaiz Hassan Firdousi demands people-friendly power policy in the UT of Jammu and Kashmir.
“Notwithstanding the continuous hike in power bills in Jammu and Kashmir , he demanded a prompt action for reduction of the electricity bills and streamlining of the power tariff in the interest and benefit of common man.
“The significant hike in monthly electricity bills is unjust and unaffordable. Abrupt 80% increase in electricity bills has left residents in a state of distress,” he said.
Mirwaiz Hassan Firdousi criticized Power Development Department (PDD), alleging irregular electricity supply alongside what they perceive as unfair billing practices persisting for several months, causing inconvenience and financial strain.
“Consumers used to receive monthly electricity bills of Rs 350 then 750 then 1080, which were then raised to Rs 1300. Now, without any prior notice, it has been further hiked finally to Rs 2080, which is totally injustice with the people of J&k,” he said in his statement.
Highlighting the challenges faced by the people in urban as well as rural JK, he said importance of electricity is evident but consumers receive it only for a few hours in winters and now when the summers have come and power has improved, it is the power bills that break the courage of businessmen.
Mirwaiz North Kashmir said It is unfortunate that being richest state in water resources. We are the worst hit people and on the other side our neighbouring states are getting Two hundred units free by using our water resources.
