Family members of 3 missing Rajouri youth demand dead bodies, probe of 18 July encounter

Rajouri August 12(PTK)Family members of three youth from Rajouri district of Jammu division have demanded dead bodies of their kins and probe of Amshipora Shopian encounter in which three police claimed that unidentified militants were killed.

A police official confirmed that family members of three youth namely Ibrar Ahmed son of Bagha, Imtiaz Ahmed S/o Sabir Hussain both resident of PH Dhar (Kathuni) and Ibrar Ahmed son of M Yousuf resident of Tarkassi filed their missing report on Sunday.

Mohammad Yousuf, father of Ibrar Ahmad said that Imtiyaz was in Shopian since June while as two Ibrars left home on 16 July for Shopian to earn their livelihood.

On 17 July, we called them and they said we have reached Shopian and are with Imtiyaz there, however since 18 July there phones are continuously off, he said adding that we contacted every nook and corner but couldn’t find their traces.

After failing to trace them, we lodged missing report on Sunday at concerned police station, he said, while demanding probe in Amshipora Shopian encounter.

We heard that on 18th July there was an encounter in Shopian and since then there are phones of Kins of our off, he said adding we are now trying to reach shopian, however, we were not allowed as concerned authorities said that you will be allowed only having passes for which we have started process

We have identified them they have been killed, we demand dead bodies and we demand probe, why they were killed, he said, adding that there was no FIR registered against them anywhere.

He demanded that persons found guilty must be punished

Pertinently government forces on 18 July claimed that they killed three unidentified militants in Amshipora village of Shopian.

J&K police in a statement said that on a specific input by 62RR about presence of militants in village Amshipora area of District Shopian, an operation was launched by them in the said area.

“During search militants fired upon Army personnel and encounter started. Later on police and CRPF also joined, they said while adding that during encounter three unidentified militants were killed,” the police statement said.

“Bodies of all the killed three militants were retrieved from the site of encounter and the identification and affiliation of the slain is being ascertained,” the statement said.

They said, adding that incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.

“All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other crimes,” the statement said, adding that the bodies of the killed militants have been sent to Baramulla for their last rites after conducting medico-legal formalities including collection of their DNA and in case any family claims the killed militants to be their kith or kin, they can come forward for their identification and participation in last rites at Baramulla.

“”Case FIR No. 42/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Hirpora and investigation has been initiated into the matter,” the statement said.(PTK)
