Baramulla Police Intensifies Crackdown on Drug Smuggling: 39 Peddlers Arrested in January

BARAMULLA : In a resolute move against drug smuggling, Baramulla Police have reported the arrest of 39 drug peddlers, including three hard-core offenders booked under PIT NDPS PSA, during the month of January 2024. The police have registered 24 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and recovered contraband substances with an estimated value of 15.46 lacs.
This robust enforcement follows the successful efforts of Baramulla Police in 2023, where a significant reduction in drug peddling cases was observed. The statistics for the preceding year include 264 cases registered under the NDPS Act, 75 drug peddlers booked under PIT NDPS Act/PSA, the attachment of seven properties valued at Rs. 3 crores, and the destruction of seized contraband worth 34 crores.
Community members are urged to actively participate in curbing the menace of drug peddling by providing information to the police. Baramulla Police emphasizes its commitment to dealing with individuals involved in drug peddling in accordance with the law.
