Awareness, Health and Enforcement Drives Intensified Across Budgam Under NMBA

Budgam, May 12 (PTK): Multiple awareness, health and enforcement activities were organised across Budgam on Monday under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA) to strengthen the campaign against drug abuse and substance addiction.

As part of the drive, a Mega Health Camp was organised at Shunglipora area of Khag with the objective of spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and tobacco consumption, especially among rural populations.

Medical professionals and healthcare workers conducted awareness sessions and individual counselling programmes during the camp, educating people about the importance of healthy living and early tobacco cessation to avoid serious health complications.

Officials said a large number of OPD tickets were issued during the camp and free medicines were distributed among patients to promote preventive healthcare practices and ensure better healthcare support.

Special emphasis was laid on counselling sessions focusing on substance abuse, tobacco addiction and mental as well as physical well-being. The initiative received an encouraging response from local residents.

The Health Administration Khag played a key role in organising the camp and promoting awareness regarding de-addiction and tobacco control.

Meanwhile, awareness programmes were also held at Government Higher Secondary School Budgam where students were educated about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encouraged to adopt healthy and disciplined lifestyles.

In another initiative, students and staff of Government Degree College Khansahib carried out a cleanliness and awareness drive by destroying wild bung growing around the college premises to prevent misuse of narcotic substances and promote a clean environment.

Additionally, inspection drives of pharmacies were conducted in Bugam, Gowherpora Chadoora and SK Pora Magam to ensure strict compliance with regulations governing the sale and distribution of medicines and psychotropic substances.

The district administration reiterated its commitment towards making Budgam a drug-free district through sustained awareness campaigns, enforcement measures and active public participation. Authorities also appealed to the public to cooperate in building a healthier, drug-free and tobacco-free society.(PTK)
