ACB Traps, Arrests BDC Member While Demanding and Accepting Bribe ₹10,000 in Ganderbal

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has successfully apprehended Gowhar Ahmad Reshi, a Block Development Council (BDC) Member, and Majid Aziz, District Mineral Officer (DMO) Ganderbal. The arrests come in the wake of allegations surrounding a bribery scandal related to the issuance of a disposal permit, as reported in a statement to the News Agency Press Trust of Kashmir.

The incident unfolded when an authorized material supplier, in pursuit of a disposal permit from DMO Ganderbal, encountered undue delays. Frustrated by the situation, the complainant sought assistance from Majid Aziz, who, instead of providing a solution, directed him to BDC Member Gowhar Ahmad Reshi, implying compliance with any demands made.

Gowhar Ahmad allegedly demanded a staggering ₹50,000 for the issuance of the required document, insisting on an upfront payment of ₹10,000. Refusing to succumb to corruption, the vigilant complainant promptly reported the incident to the ACB. Subsequently, Case FIR No. 01/2024 was registered under U/S 7 PC Act 1988 at PS ACB Srinagar.

Executing a meticulously planned operation, a dedicated trap team successfully apprehended Gowhar Ahmad Reshi red-handed while accepting ₹10,000 in bribe money. The accused, identified as Gowhar Ahmad Reshi, a BDC Member residing in Safapora Ganderbal, now faces the consequences of his illicit actions. The role of DMO Majid Aziz is currently under investigation.

The ACB emphasizes the importance of citizens refraining from engaging in bribery and encourages prompt reporting of any such demands by public servants. This incident underscores the commitment of ACB J&K to uphold integrity and combat corruption within public offices, as the investigation into the case continues.
