Expect J&K Assembly to Pass Resolution for Restoration of Article 370
Srinagar, Oct 20 – National Conference (NC) leader Aga Ruhullah Mehdi has expressed confidence that the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will pass a resolution for the restoration of Article 370 in its very first session. Speaking on ‘X Space,’ Mehdi, the Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar, emphasized that the NC is firmly committed to this cause.
“I expect the resolution for the restoration of Article 370 to be the first business of the Assembly. If not the first, it will certainly be addressed in the first session,” said Mehdi. He added that his commitment to this issue is unwavering and that the NC remains dedicated to restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s special status, which was abrogated on August 5, 2019.
Mehdi also reassured that there is no reason to doubt the NC’s stance, stating, “Based on my interactions with party leaders, there is no cause for worry. I will continue reminding them of this commitment in Parliament.”
Addressing the return of Kashmiri Pandits, Mehdi advocated for a societal initiative to ensure their safe return. He called for collective efforts to create a roadmap for the return of Kashmiri Pandits to the valley, noting that the BJP government has not made significant progress on the issue over the past decade.
Recently, the Cabinet led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah passed a resolution urging the Centre to restore Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. This resolution has now received the Lieutenant Governor’s approval and will be forwarded to the Union government for consideration.
