Udhampur, August 14: Security forces, including the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched a joint operation against terrorists in the Akar Forest near Patnitop on Tuesday. Hours after the operation commenced, security personnel successfully established contact with the terrorists, and the operation remains ongoing.

As part of the heightened security measures, a special Naka has been set up on the Batote-Doda highway. This increased vigilance comes as security forces across Jammu and Kashmir are on high alert ahead of Independence Day, aiming to ensure public safety amid growing concerns of terrorist activities in the region.

In a tragic incident last Saturday, two Army soldiers lost their lives during an encounter, highlighting the rising threat in the area. The Jammu region has witnessed an uptick in terror-related incidents in recent months, including an attack on an Army convoy in Kathua and clashes in Doda and Udhampur.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) reported that 28 individuals, including civilians and security personnel, were killed in 11 terror-related incidents and 24 counter-terror operations up to July 21.

In a separate incident last month, Indian Army troops thwarted an attack by the Pakistan Border Action Team (BAT) along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Machchal sector of Kupwara district. The skirmish resulted in the death of one Pakistani intruder and one Indian Army soldier, with four others, including a major-rank officer, sustaining injuries.

The recent surge in terrorist activities and subsequent counter-terror operations underscore the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in the region. As Independence Day approaches, the situation remains tense, with all efforts focused on ensuring the safety and security of the public.
