Train Service to Begin from Ramban to Reasi via World’s Highest Railway Bridge
Reasi, J&K: Northern Railways has announced that the train service from Ramban to Reasi, traversing the world’s highest railway bridge built over the Chenab River, is set to commence soon. The completion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project is expected by the end of this year.
The USBRL project marks a significant milestone in the region’s connectivity. On 20 February 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 48.1 km long Banihal-Sangaldan section, bringing the project closer to its final stages. The ambitious initiative, aimed at enhancing transportation and boosting economic development in Jammu and Kashmir, has been progressing in phases.
The first phase, spanning 118 km from Qazigund to Baramulla, was completed and inaugurated in October 2009. This was followed by the opening of the 18 km Banihal-Qazigund section in June 2013. The 25 km stretch from Udhampur to Katra was inaugurated in July 2014.
With the imminent launch of the Ramban to Reasi service, the region will witness improved connectivity, fostering development and easing travel for residents and tourists alike. The world’s highest railway bridge over the Chenab River stands as a testament to engineering marvel and determination, promising a new era of progress and accessibility in Jammu and Kashmir.
