The Jama Masjid in Srinagar, a revered site for Eid prayers, found its gates locked on the auspicious occasion of Eid Ul Fitr. The decision, enforced by police personnel after Fajar prayers, left worshippers dismayed and disappointed.

The Anjuman Auqaf Jama Masjid, responsible for the management of the mosque, received the unexpected directive from the authorities, stating that Eid prayers, scheduled for 9:30 AM, would not be permitted within the premises. This unprecedented move drew sharp criticism and sparked concerns among the local community.

Adding to the unrest, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, a prominent religious leader and the Mirwaiz e Kashmir, was once again placed under house arrest in the early hours of the morning. This action further escalated tensions and raised questions about the freedom of religious expression in the region.

The decision to bar Eid prayers at Jama Masjid and the continued house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq have ignited debates about the fundamental rights of Kashmiri Muslims to observe their religious traditions without hindrance. Many have expressed outrage over what they perceive as unwarranted interference in religious affairs.

As the situation unfolds, concerns linger about the implications of such actions on communal harmony and the overall atmosphere of peace in the region. The closure of Jama Masjid on Eid, a time traditionally marked by unity and celebration, serves as a stark reminder of the challenges facing Kashmir and the complexities surrounding its socio-political landscape.
