Jammu and Kashmir & Ladakh High Court Raises Alarms Over Srinagar Power Outage, Requests Chief Secy for Intervention
The Jammu and Kashmir & Ladakh High Court voiced serious concerns on Monday regarding a significant ‘power outage’ within its Srinagar wing, prompting an urgent plea to the Chief Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor for immediate intervention to address the issue.
During proceedings for the case titled “Aaqib Hussain & Ors. Versus University of Kashmir & Ors.”, the double-bench judge, comprising Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, expressed deep dismay at the complete lack of power supply. The outage, reported by the News Agency Press Trust of Kashmir, rendered the High Court incapacitated, with no lights or functioning air heating unit (AHU).
“The power failure occurred around 09:45 am and has yet to be restored as of the passing of this order at approximately 11:28 am. This situation is appalling and unacceptable for the Srinagar Wing of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh,” remarked the double-bench judge.
Seeking an immediate resolution, the Court implored the Chief Secretary to the Union Territory to issue necessary directives to rectify the problem without delay. The Court emphasized the need for a permanent solution, suggesting measures such as establishing a dedicated power line to the High Court, supported by generators capable of sustaining uninterrupted power supply to the entire premises, including the air heating unit.
The Court has scheduled further deliberation on the matter for February 21, 2014, prioritizing it “at the top of the list for further orders,” highlighting the urgency of addressing the power outage to ensure the seamless functioning of the High Court’s operations in Srinagar.
