SRINAGAR: Five years have passed since the tragic Pulwama attack shook the nation to its core, leaving an indelible mark on the collective consciousness of India. On this solemn occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the nation in paying heartfelt tributes to the brave CRPF personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

In a poignant gesture, Prime Minister Modi took to the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to express his reverence for the martyrs. As reported by the News Agency Press Trust of Kashmir, he wrote, “I pay homage to the brave heroes who were martyred in Pulwama. Their service and sacrifice for our nation will always be remembered.” In another tweet, he reiterated the sentiment, stating, “Remembering our valorous heroes who we lost on this day in Pulwama. We will never forget their supreme sacrifice. Their courage motivates us to build a strong and developed India.”

The Pulwama attack, which occurred on February 14, 2019, remains etched in the memory of every Indian. Forty Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel tragically lost their lives when terrorists targeted a convoy of 78 vehicles carrying over 2,500 CRPF personnel from Jammu to Srinagar. The cowardly act of terrorism was perpetrated by the Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), which promptly claimed responsibility for the heinous act.

The suicide bomber responsible for the attack was identified as Adil Ahmed, alias Waqas Commander, hailing from Kakapora in Pulwama. The nation mourned the loss of its brave sons and daughters, whose lives were cut short in the prime of their service to the nation.

In response to the Pulwama attack, the Indian Air Force took decisive action against terrorist camps across the Line of Control (LoC) on February 26, 2019. Mirage 2000 fighter jets carried out precision strikes, targeting major JeM terrorist camps and dealing a significant blow to the perpetrators of terror.

Five years on, the wounds inflicted by the Pulwama attack remain fresh in the hearts of every Indian. The courage and sacrifice of the Pulwama martyrs serve as a solemn reminder of the challenges faced by our armed forces in safeguarding the nation’s security and integrity. As we honor their memory, let us reaffirm our resolve to combat terrorism in all its forms and build a stronger, more resilient India in their honor.

May the souls of the Pulwama martyrs rest in eternal peace, and may their spirit continue to inspire generations to come.
