Social Media Misuse Sparks Police Action in Jammu

JAMMU: In response to a complaint filed by Amit Sharma of Bajalta, the police arrested two individuals, Zaffar Hussain and Nusrat, and booked six others for uploading objectionable content on Instagram. The posts, aimed at creating communal tension between communities in the Jammu region, led to swift police action. A case has been registered at Nagrota police station, and investigations are underway.

 

The complaint originated from the inhabitants of Khana Chargal village in Jammu district, expressing concerns about the potential repercussions of the social media posts. The police spokesperson confirmed the arrest of the accused individuals and assured further scrutiny of the case.

 

Apart from the arrests in Jammu district, the police have taken cognizance of five individuals in Ramban district for posting objectionable content on social media platforms. Cases have been registered against them, and investigations are ongoing.

 

Additionally, a person in Kathua district has been booked for a derogatory post. The police emphasize their commitment to monitoring all social media platforms closely, with cyber cells actively observing posts and comments. The spokesperson warned of strict actions against those posting provocative or hate-spreading content.

 

This incident underscores the growing challenges of maintaining communal harmony in the digital age, prompting authorities to reinforce vigilance against the misuse of social media for creating tensions and spreading hatred.
