Denying OPD treatment to pregnant women amid Covid surge condemnable: Kadfeen

Press Trust of Kashmir | Srinagar: Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary on Saturday urged the Jammu and Kashmir administration not to deny medical assistance to the expecting mothers in view of the lockdown being imposed due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Kadfeen in a statement said that the OPDs in hospitals of Jammu and Kashmir have been closed for the non- COVID patients and the brunt of such a decision shall be borne by the expecting mothers hailing from far-flung areas and economically downtrodden backgrounds. “Taking precautionary measures is fine. But it needs mental alacrity to understand that expecting mothers deserve the best of healthcare facilities in any saner society. Shutting the hospital doors at them is going to prove lethal to the core. The medical experts and those at the helm in the administration must rack their brains to comprehend that denying pregnant women that treatment is ridiculously criminal,” Kadfeen said.

He added that the government must reverse any such decision in accordance to which medical assistance to pregnant women has been denied in the government-run hospitals.:-PTK.
